Outside Right-of-Way Tree Risk Along Electrical Transmission Lines

This work shows tree-related outages to be attributable to the extent of tree exposure. Tree exposure has two parameters, the number of trees capable of striking a line on failure and average arc of power line exposure to a falling tree. A process for calculating the change in tree-related outage frequency arising from management practices affecting tree exposure is developed.
