Sertex Utility Services has been awarded the first construction contract for a massive infrastructure upgrade project in the Rochester, NY area. Rochester Gas & Electric, along with its parent company Iberdrola USA, will invest $254 million to upgrade the electric transmission system that serves hundreds of thousands of customers, including the City of Rochester and western Monroe County.
Sertex, which builds critical infrastructure for communications, utilities and municipalities throughout the Northeast, will be upgrading substation #80, a 345-kV transmission substation in the town of Henrietta, NY.
Michael Solitro, President of Sertex said “We’re pleased to be awarded the first contract in this important project and we appreciate RG&E’s confidence in Sertex.”
The project, known as the Rochester Area Reliability Project (RARP) will provide additional electricity to fill growing demand, increase reliability and accommodate growth and economic development in the towns of Chili, Gates, and Henrietta and the City of Rochester.
The project will be one of the largest investments in the region’s history. It will create about 70 local jobs during the 18-24 month construction period and have positive longterm impact on job creation and property values in the future.
