AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division has recently won an order worth approximately €21 million from Power Grid Corp. Ltd. (PGCIL), India’s main transmission utility, for a 765-kV Extra High Voltage Substation. AREVA will deliver this project in Jaiti Kalan, located in Delhi.

Commenting on the order, Michel Augonnet, Executive Vice President of AREVA T&D’s Systems Business Unit said, “Winning this fifth 765-kV Substation order from Power Grid is recognition of AREVA’s proven expertise and leading position in the 765-kV domain in India. We are proud to actively partner with Power Grid in its plans to develop Extra and Ultra High Voltage Transmission networks for India.”

Rathin Basu, Country President and Managing Director of AREVA T&D India, added “We are confident that the localization program initiated at our new plants earlier this year, with T&D equipment built and serviced locally, is a key differentiator that will help us to build the Indian Extra High Voltage (765 KV) grid. “

AREVA T&D deployed India’s first 765-kV substation for the National Thermal Power Corp. (NTPC) at Sipat, which has been in operation since January 2007. Thanks to these recent major orders, AREVA T&D India has now won seven of fifteen 765-kV substation projects so far awarded in this country.
