San Diego Gas & Electric kicked off the 4th annual Inspiring Future Leaders initiative, a $1 million charitable giving campaign, on Feb. 4. The initiative provides grants to non-profit organizations that develop youth leaders through mentoring; leadership and character development; college and workforce preparation; and, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs for underserved K-12 students.
"Our non-profit community partners play such an important role in helping to foster our future generation of leaders," said Frank Urtasun, regional vice president of external relations for SDG&E. "We are proud to support them in reaching as many of our youth as possible."
Non-profit organizations have until Feb. 28 to apply for initiative grants at www.sdge.com/community. Through a competitive request-for-proposal process, the initiative will award grants up to $25,000 for individual organizations and up to $50,000 for collaborative projects to selected non-profit organizations that provide leadership programs for underserved K-12 students. SDG&E anticipates making grant awards in April 2014.
