ABB to Offer Special Transformer Training Prior to AWEA Windpower in Chicago

May 2, 2013

ABB will hold one of its popular Red TIE transformer seminars on Sunday afternoon, May 5, on the eve of the AWEA Windpower conference and exhibition, held this year in Chicago.

ABB will host this special Red TIE (Technical Information Exchange) event, in conjunction with the AWEA show, on Sunday May 5, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, in Room S-502.  AWEA Windpower will run from May 5-8, and ABB will be exhibiting in booth # 3743 in Exhibit Hall A of the South Building of the McCormick Conference Center.

This Red TIE pre-conference workshop is designed to maximize the AWEA Windpower experience, with a special focus on transformers. These courses are designed to be relevant, topical, issue-concentrated classes taught by recognized experts in their respective fields.

“The ABB Transformers business created this Red TIE event a few years ago as a mobile event, allowing us to provide ‘technical exchanges’ for our customers, right in their backyards. These Red TIE events have proven to be quite popular, allowing participants to shape the day’s curriculum in a non-commercial, technical venue,” said Richard Bocim, ABB head of commercial operations, transformers, North America. “We’re looking forward to offering this Red TIE event in conjunction with AWEA Windpower 2013, and we’ll focus our discussions on the technical virtues of various transformers as they relate specifically to wind applications.”

The training program will consist of the following topics:

  • Renewable application system considerations that impact transformer design.
  • Design considerations for distribution generator step-up transformers in wind applications.
  • Standardized Power Transformer offerings for renewable applications.
  • Up-tower maintenance considerations for dry type generator step-up transformers.
