Advanced Control Systems, along with fiber optic partner PCS, Inc., has completed a three-year network installation project with the Marietta Board of Lights and Water to provide a turnkey system with innovative technical design and value added options.
Delivering the project on schedule, ACS and PCS designed, installed and maintained a fiber optic network to provide high speed connectivity between the utility's ACS PRISM SCADA system and its 17 electrical substations and 144 automated switches. The project delivered Marietta with a 120-mile, fully digital 48-fiber backbone ring, managed and maintained using PCS' FiberTrak asset management system. Primarily designed for utility SCADA functions, the network also provides critical fiber use for the city's traffic, IT, police, fire and other public works entities.
The project provides a wrap-around guarantee beyond cable installation and an alternative technical design incorporating simplicity and added redundancy. The fiber installation project is the latest example of the types of value-added projects that ACS offers through its turnkey services business unit. In addition to fiber work, the company through its extensive partner network delivers and manages projects that include control room design and installation, substation services and communication systems.
