Bringing Light to Bolivia

Linemen from nine Illinois electric cooperatives volunteered to put up the distribution system for a Bolivian village

In early April, more than 60 homes and two schools received electricity for the first time in Bolivia. This was made possible by 12 linemen from nine Illinois electric cooperatives, who participated in a volunteer mission sponsored by the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives and managed and coordinated by NRECA International. These volunteers spent three weeks in Central Bolivia constructing the power distribution system. All photos courtesy of Paul Dow, AEIC.
