Minneapolis, MN -- Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) and Mexican partner, Automatización y Tecnología Mexicana SA de CV (Atemex), announce the successful implementation of a next-generation SCADA system for División de Distribución Noroeste of Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) at its Distribution Control Center located in Hermosillo, Mexico.

División de Distribución Noroeste, who provides electric energy to more than 1,700,600 customers in the Northwest area of Mexico, is one of several CFE divisions throughout Mexico. The new control center is located in Hermosillo, the largest city and capital of the Mexican state of Sonora, and serves more than 292,000 customers by improving the support, reliability and efficiency of the electrical network.

Atemex and OSI have equipped División de Distribución Noroeste with OSI's advanced monarch™ (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) technology on the Linux platform, providing a truly open and scalable system to fulfill their needs well into the future. In addition to solving the inherent problems of their former legacy system, the flexibility of the monarch platform will allow División de Distribución Noroeste to optimally cope with increases in energy demand. OSI, Atemex and División de Distribución Noroeste have formed a strong partnership and implemented a SCADA system with unmatched levels of dependability, effectiveness and maintenance ease.

The new system in Hermosillo includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Web-based Graphical User Interface, Historical Information and Archiving System, Trending and Calculation subsystem, Open Database Connectivity, as well as DNP and ICCP communications.

“With the support and assistance of the CFE team at División de Distribución Noroeste in Zona Hermosillo, we are proud to announce the completed commission of the SCADA system. One hundred percent of the electrical network and distribution substations in the area are now under the supervision and control of an OSI monarch system. Atemex is thoroughly satisfied with the installation of OSI's first system in Mexico, and we hope that with continued hard work and excellence in customer service, the coming years will see most of the control centers in Mexico using OSI technology,” said Luis Teran, president of Atemex. “With the active participation of the CFE team in Hermosillo, we have added redundancy features to the existing system without interrupting online system operation, which highlights the elegant design, ease of maintenance and use of the monarch system. The CFE and Atemex teams are very pleased with the system and process undertaken.”

“OSI is proud to have División de Distribución Noroeste as OSI's first customer in Mexico. We look forward to a continued and mutually beneficial relationship for many years to come. Our work with the División de Distribución Noroeste and Atemex teams has been, and continues to be, enjoyable and productive. Clearly there is a shared excitement with the prospect of replicating the successful experience with many CFE divisions and other utilities in Mexico,” said Bahman Hoveida, president and CEO of OSI.

CFE (www.cfe.gob.mx/) is a Mexican public corporation and government agency that was founded in 1937. CFE's mission is to provide generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization of electric energy for 26.4 million customers of Mexico's population of almost 80 million people, making it the largest electric utility in Mexico, and one the largest in North America. División de Distribución Noroeste is one of several CFE divisions throughout Mexico and provides electric energy to over 1,700,600 customers.
